Arab Countries are Importing Cow Dung Worth 400 Crore Every Year From India For Date Farming

Cow dung from Indian cattle is now seeing significant international demand, particularly from Arab nations such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, which are importing large quantities of cow dung and cow urine from India.

In FY 2023–24, India exported nearly ₹400 crore worth of cow dung and related products.

Breakdown of exports:
• Fresh cow dung: ₹125 crore
• Cow dung-based fertilizers: ₹173.57 crore
• Compost manure: ₹88.02 crore

The spike in demand stems from a major agricultural discovery in Gulf countries — powdered cow dung greatly enhances date palm productivity. Recently, Kuwait alone imported 192 metric tons of cow dung from India.

India produces about 30 million tonnes of cow dung daily, giving it more than enough capacity to meet this growing demand. With current prices ranging from ₹30–₹50/kg, the value is expected to rise even further.

This trend not only holds economic value but also sets a new trajectory for India’s agricultural exports—promoting rural entrepreneurship, opening new income streams in villages, and advancing global organic farming practices.
